100 Word Challenge: Guilt

I had this whole post planned. I was going to congratulate all last week’s participants and say how great their submissions were, especially since I stifled them with the prohibition of using the letter D. They all wrote seamlessly. If you didn’t know they couldn’t use that letter, you would not have missed it.

Then… something happened to throw me off my game.

I’m house-slash-pet sitting for a friend. Today when I went to check on things, i discovered her fridge was not working. As in, I tried to fill a glass with ice from the door dispenser and instead of crushed cubes, got a gush of cool water.

My friend is 4,500+ miles and seven time zones away. This is not going to be an easy fix.

I hurried home and got as many coolers as I could find, loaded up on bags of ice from the local Tom Thumb gas station and hurried back to salvage what I could. It’s not looking good.

I’m waiting to hear back on how she wants me to proceed and hopefully get this malfunctioning appliance repaired or replaced by the time my friend returns home… in four weeks.

It would be accurate to say that the contents of her refrigerator are most likely a total loss.

I know it’s not my fault that the fridge is wonky, but I still feel all sorts of guilty about the loss of her food. That she’s so far away only makes it worse.

To make to assuage some of that guilt, here are some pix of the new plant stand my Mister made for me and the flowers it now holds. (Check out the cool bottle opener he included.)
