This week I got a new haircut. I’m trying to be my true self and embrace the grey. (That’s not grey hair, that’s glitter!)
For a while, I went fiery. I had always wanted to be a redhead. I liked it, but one thing about dark hair, dark red hair, is that grey roots are very obvious. It was a lot of expensive upkeep.
So, I went to the other extreme and went blonde… really blonde, like trying-to-match-the-pale-hair-that-was-my-50-something-hair blonde.
Again, very high maintenance – so much time and money to make it look “natural.”
Then I decided to just give up and stop all artificial means of changing my hair color. My hair was also showing the effects of so much chemical adjustment… it wasn’t a good look. It only gave credence to my Crazy Cat Lady persona.
That was about six months ago, just enough time to grow out a weird mane of mismatched hair – darkish-grey on top, frazzled blonde on the bottom – a really ugly, mutant mullet.
That was until Monday and I had the offending hair chopped off.
My stylist cut off about eight inches of damage. I went from hair that fell below my shoulders to a new ‘do that barely reaches my chin – short bob, no bangs.
And, I love it. I also love that my remaining hair is all my natural shade, grey and all.
Don’t get too excited there won’t be any before/after shots. I’m sticking to my story about being in WITSEC and can’t be photographed. Just believe me when I say my hair looks 100% better.
It did wonders for lifting my spirit, my head even feels lighter.
