100 Word Challenge: Roof

It’s been raining around here for the last week or so. It’s raining today and forecasts call for rain the rest of this week and well into next.

With a smattering of thunder and lightning thrown in for added ambience, all I want to do is wrap up in a warm blanket and be lulled to sleep by the pitter-patter of rain outside.

This is not a good environment for creative inspiration.

If there was a tin roof involved, I’d be practically catatonic.

I am grateful that the afghan that I am working on is nearly finished and is long enough to cover not only my legs, but my chilled feet. Otherwise, all this rainy background music would be wasted.

Today is the first of August. It is hot, steamy and wet. It is raining. I am tempted to write a poem. But I remember what it said on one rejection slip: ‘After a heavy rainfall, poems titled ‘Rain’ pour in from across the nation. ~ Sylvia Plath
