100 Word Challenge: Cook

Of my two children, it’s my son who has a flair for the culinary arts. He loves to cook and has created some delicious dishes. He is adventurous with his ingredients, which sometimes result in interesting flavors.

Recently he was ruminating about one of his favorite childhood treats – 7-Layer/Magic Bars. He mused on how the basic recipe could use some tweaking.

I reminded him that we have a brownie pan with a divider that slices the brownies into 12 even pieces.

A lightbulb went off.

From there he went a little crazy. He made a common graham cracker crust, then built a dozen different bars, topping the whole mess with a can of sweetened condensed milk. (He wants to try again beginning with a shortbread or Oreo cookie crust.)

Without giving away proprietary information, I can divulge the list of ingredients he used but not their specific combination.

Milk chocolate chips
White chocolate chips
Andes chocolate mint chips
Pecans
Walnuts
Almond
Peanut butter
Sunflower butter
Caramel
Coconut – plain and toasted
Craisins
Corn chips
Pretzels
Granola
Sea Salt
Cinnamon sugar
Smoked paprika
Jelly – raspberry, boysenberry, orange marmalade, strawberry

We’ve taste-tested only three of the bars, but they were each delicious.

Have fun with your own baking experiments – don’t stick with the same old thing, be adventurous.

“Just discovered that creating a recipe is like writing, the art is knowing when to stop adding and changing the ingredients.” Chris Geiger

This week’s word is:

Cook

What to do:

Using “cook” for inspiration, write 100 Words – 100 exactly – no more, no less. You can either use the word – or any form of the word – as one of your 100, or it can be implied. Include a link in your post back here, and add your story to the Mister Linky list. If you don’t have a blog, you can leave your submission in the comment section, or as a Facebook status post. Remember to keep spreading the love with supportive comments for your fellow Wordsters.

  1. Sorry for the duplicate comment. WordPress hates me. Sometimes it accepts my Facebook profile, sometimes my Twitter profile, sometimes neither gets through the Spam filters.
This looks delicious! I normally don’t do writing challenges on my business and life hacks blog, but I may have to do something about food for this one.

    1. Not a problem, WordPress and Facebook do that to me sometimes. When you write your post, make sure to send me the link or add it to the Mister Linky List.
