100 Word Challenge: Fancy

It’s that time of year… days are getting longer, flowers are budding out, spring is mere days away, and pastel candy eggs and white Easter bonnets fill the store aisles.

I remember as a kid that Easter was the one holiday I was assured of getting a pretty new outfit to wear to Church. On a few occasions I even had lacy, white gloves.

The whole congregation was a sea of pinks, baby blues, pale yellows and foam greens. What we also had was shiny patent leather shoes that we wore only once a year on Easter Sunday.

Though… if my grandmother had her way, I would’ve never wore such finery.

Ever the prim and proper Southern Lady, she admonished my mother about the temptations of these shiny shoes. An inappropriate person may use the highly reflective surface of my patent leather Mary Janes to catch a peek at my fancy, ruffled, undies.

Scandalous for a tiny, preschooler that just wanted to show off her fancy Easter clothes.
