100 Word Challenge: Last

When I began my first blog it was an adjunct to my paying job. I worked for a media company in it’s online division as a content manager. Blogs were becoming a popular tool for news outlets and as someone who generated content, logically I was one of the people tagged to author a site. Less than six months later, the powers that be changed their minds and I was made an offer I couldn’t refuse – sole ownership of my burgeoning blog.

That was ten years ago today. A full decade (plus a few months) of being a bonafide blogger… an OG blogger.

I know that there are plenty of people who have an online presence that is older than mine but in blogging terms, 10 years is like 50 in real life.

In all that time I have met so many amazing people. People I’ve had the pleasure of meeting In Real Life. People who I consider close friends even though I’ve never actually seen them in person.

Blogging has changed a lot in those 10 years. Many of the people who were also blogging when I started are no longer consistently active on their sites, instead I’ve maintained contact with them on Facebook or Twitter. Some few have stopped blogging altogether and I’ve lost touch with them. That’s the sad part of longevity – not everyone survives.

I don’t know if I’ll still be around in another 10 years, but I have no current plans to stop blogging. My focus has changed – going from a Mommy Blogger to a Fiction Writer – and it may change again over the coming years. Right now, I’m here to stay, even if only for myself.

I don’t think there’s ever been anyone like me that’s lasted. And I’m going to keep on lasting. ~ Paris Hilton

This week’s word is:

Last

What to do:

Using “last” for inspiration, write 100 Words – 100 exactly – no more, no less. You can either use the word – or any form of the word – as one of your 100, or it can be implied. Include a link in your post back here, and add your story to the Mister Linky list. If you don’t have a blog, you can leave your submission in the comment section, or as a Facebook status post. Remember to keep spreading the love with supportive comments for your fellow Wordsters.
