100 Word Challenge: No means O

It has been almost a year to the day that I last replaced the protective silicone keyboard cover for my laptop computer. I had worn a hole in the cover over the letter “a,” My guess was that it was my favorite letter.

Last week I had to replace my cover again. Only this time, there had been an alienation of my affections. No longer was the fashionable “a” my favorite, it had been ousted by its popularity rival, “n.”

As with the last changing of the guard, I’m commemorating with a challenge.

Choose any topic for this week’s 100 Words, only none of the words may include the letter, “n.”

That means, no “ands,” no “no’s,”, no “in’s,” no “cans,” nor any “nots.” Contractions with “n’s” are also disallowed.

Avoiding a consonant should be a little easier than omitting a vowel, but the tendency will be to gravitate to what is foremost in your mind.

Have fun, or should I say, “lighthearted pleasure,” with this challenge.

What to do:

Without using the letter, N, write 100 Words – 100 exactly – no more, no less. You can either use the word – or any form of the word – as one of your 100, or it can be implied. Include a link in your post back here, and add your story to the Mister Linky list. If you don’t have a blog, you can leave your submission in the comment section, or as a Facebook status post. Remember to keep spreading the love with supportive comments for your fellow Wordsters.

  1. The key abutting “b” before “m” has disappeared. Do I require it? Is it possible to write five score words without it? I am hopeful but let’s see.

    It could be worse. The “a” key of my boss’s laptop keyboard has become loose. She has to use asterisks to replace a’s. It’s true, vowels would be a serious problem. If you wrote without them, would the result be readable to us? I doubt it.

    After all, look at the mayhem in James Thurber’s book about the letter O.

    I’d tell you about it but I’d require my key back first.

    1. Ps this was so hard! My boss really has lost her letter a. The book by James Thurber is “The Wonderful O” and I loved it as a child. Someone takes over who bans the letter O. One of the best lines is that “Ophelia Oliver was banished from the haunts of men” or something. Great challenge.

  2. I’ve read this and reread this. I discovered one “n” and had to go back and change a few words. I hope I’ve gotten it now. Phew. Here goes…

    Arrgh! The cruel powers that rule us. How are we to speak or write our true thoughts if we are without some letters? They have legislated alphabets that are without specific letters. It is impossibly hard.

    What will they come up with to torture us further? It was bad the time they tried to limit our health care. It was harder the time they told us what to believe. It is extremely bad without truthful updates regarding others across the globe. Formerly, the leader of the US was free of deceit. Straightaway we have become people who are easily duped.

  3. First time I’ve ever tried something like this. I’m in the middle of a blog challenge at the moment so i will leave my submission here.

    To write a story without the letter which follows m is my task today.
    The total words equal forty-five plus fifty-five. I made a choice to cut my grass myself. The mower works well but the time is great to complete this job. Greg says this is the best way for me to discover whether i actually have time to keep up with it. I was surprised by his expressed thought as i thought he shared my desire to save dollars. As usual, i was surprised by the disparity. I will stay with my choice. All by myself.

  4. Hi Tara. Don’t know what has happened. I can’t get to the comments on the post. For the last hour or more it’s showing connecting to WordPress very strange and I dint know what. To do about it.
