100 Word Challenge: Power

The division of power in my household is not balanced. I live with two men – my husband of 30 years and my 20-something son. The family dichotomy changed drastically when our older daughter permanently moved out of the our home. It went from an equal male/female ratio to one that is clearly stacked against me. There was a paradigm shift when I became the lone female in a male dominated household.

Now, I’m the one to adjust the toilet seat. Instead of chick flicks on Sunday afternoon television, it’s American Pickers and Premier League Soccer. It’s Monday night football and not The Voice, it’s Street Outlaws instead of Grey’s Anatomy. Grey’s Anatomy!

Bottled water is no longer filling up my refrigerator, Gatorade is. I don’t run out of milk every two days because apparently boys are lactose intolerant. It’s not yogurt in the fridge but salsa; not rice cakes, but corn chips.

My front foyer is no longer clogged with high heel shoes, instead I’m constantly tripping over Vans and Zumiez.

It’s not all bad. On the up side, my gear-head son changes the oil in my car on the regular, and I don’t have to hunt for my favorite sweater or wonder where my curling iron is hiding.

  1. You made me laugh, and so much similar to my story. When the 20 year old daughter moved out, I feel like the maid, among other things…. LOL…. Thanks for coming by my blog, Jackie the newbie

      1. Thanks Tara. These things are fun. They seem to be taking over from my usual procrastination – so I guess that could be a good thing.

    1. If I remember correctly, you’re in Australia? Melbourne is about 15 hours ahead of my time zone, but the Linky is set up (I think) to take that into account. The remaining time is listed at the bottom of the link page. When time expires, the link automatically closes.
