Back in the day, when I was fresh out of college, I was plagued by Non-attendance Final Exam Nightmares. You know the ones…. you walk into a class you’ve never been too all semester, are expected to take a “counts at 50% of your grade” test, and you realize that you don’t know anything about quantum physics.
Later, as a brand new graduate, working as a server at my family’s restaurant while searching for my Big Girl Job, the dream morphed into The Waitress Shift from Hell.
You know the one… the dining room is full, you’re in the weeds with four tables all wanting you to take their order or refill their drinks and you have THAT party who can’t make up their minds.
“Hey folks, all ready to order?”
“Yes!”
Pen posed over your order pad and the debate begins.
“What are you going to have, dear?”
“I don’t know, what are you going to have?”
“I don’t know, what are you going to have?”
You offer to let them have a little more time to decide, seeing that the party at the table by the window is holding up empty glasses, angrily tapping them with their steak knives in an effort to get your attention.
“No, we’re ready to order. What are you going to have, dear?”
You’re caught in the Twilight Zone loop with no escape. And… scene…
Stress dreams are terrible. You wake up with your heart racing, your head pounding, and in a state of panic.
It’s been a long time since I’ve had one of those dreams, but one snuck into my subconscious a few nights ago. Deadlines, even self-imposed ones, can do that to you – so can procrastination. Don’t put off today what you could have done two weeks ago.
“The interpretation of dreams is the royal road to knowledge of the unconscious activities of the mind.” ~ Sigmund Freud
