Showing some skin

I’m the first to admit that I’m not much of a frou-frou girl. I’m most comfortable in jeans and T-shirts, sneakers and a ball cap. I rarely wear dresses, and hate putting on make-up. There is no effort to glam up. Even when I go out with my family, unless it’s a special occasion, you get the unvarnished me.

That also means there is little to no landscaping… get your mind out of the gutter. I meant my legs. I hate to shave.. hate it, avoid it as long as I can. I am, however, marginally vain enough to prune the stubble if I am wearing shorts or a skirt in public. Wouldn’t want to scare the children.

When I go on my photo hikes, I wear shorts. It’s far too hot in the spring and summer to don my omnipresent jeans. That also means, at least once a week, the razor comes out and my legs are shorn of hair. At least from the hem of my shorts down.

Oddly, having smooth skin is preferable to the prickly hairs, but aside from that, I’m just too plain lazy for the upkeep. I have half-way decent looking legs, you’d think I’d use that to my greatest advantage. Still, too lazy.

I probably should make more of an effort to be ‘girly.’ I’m sure that the Mister would appreciate not having to endure the sandpaper treatment. He really is a saint. I wonder if he ever wishes he married a frou-frou girl.

Day 6 – 30 Days of Shamelessness: act “girly” or “manly” in a way you’d normally avoid.

  1. Yikes … I’m in a bath suit almost every single day. And sitting around a pool that resembles a Vegas pool scene … I call it Melrose Place 🙂 Upkeep is essential over here and that includes everything. That said, Fall, my jeans, and a little less time in the bathroom every morning is looking really better and better lately.

  2. Maybe we should just all go on shaving strike, for as many of us that find that particular social obligation (cause that’s what it is, right?) a waste of time and energy! I’m always glad when fall rolls around and I don’t have to spend so much time on that convention!

  3. I’m with you on the jeans and t-shirts, but I shave my legs daily. (I KNOW!) It’s a habit I developed in high school when I went to a private school and had to wear a skirt every day for four years straight.

  4. I think the effort to be “girly,” or the effort to be almost anything you truly are not, is wasted. What you sound like is a good person, good mother …& you are definitely a good writer…that is better than girly. ~Mary
