A poor reflection

Being dead didn’t bother her, being invisible did. If she was stuck haunting this dreary dump, she should at least have fun doing it. A few scary faces, some ghostly finger wiggling, a bit of phantasmic levitation… something.

She had tried a full-voiced concert of wailing and a few eerie wind noises. Nothing. What did they expect from her if none of her attempts at possession worked?

The answer, materializing as a window reflection, was a lucky accident. The wife, glimpsing her spectral image in the glass, was appropriately terrified.

Management sent her a congratulatory memo, “that’s the spirit!”

The 100 Word Challenge, a writing prompt created by Velvet Verbosity, takes a single theme to tell a story in only 100 words ~ no more, no less. This week’s theme is ‘Spirit.’

  1. All I can say is, well done, on all accounts. It’s been interesting, and satisfying, to watch all of you progress and grow in your writing. I can tell how much more flow there is to your writing these pieces.
